Mandatory Changes to Nebraska’s Minimum Wage and Unemployment Insurance Notices

Minimum Wage

The Nebraska Department of Labor has updated their minimum wage notice. The Notice to Employees section has been updated. An employer may pay a new employee younger than 20 who is not a seasonal or migrant worker, a training wage of at least 75% of the federal minimum wage for 90 days from the date the new employee was hired, subject to the terms and conditions described in Neb. Rev. Stat. subsection 48-1203.01. The new revision date of the notice is 10/5/2016.

Unemployment Insurance

The Nebraska Department of Labor has updated their Unemployment Insurance notice. For benefit years beginning prior to 10/1/2015, individuals wanting to make an unemployment claim for benefits shall file the application online at Applicants who wish to receive benefits beginning on or after 10/1/2015, except for those claims involving either wages paid by the military or federal government or combined with wages from states other than Nebraska, shall be filed online through unless a special accommodation is required or no reasonable access to an office is available. Conditions requiring a special accommodation shall include, but not limited to, language barriers and physical and mental handicaps. Lastly, the section regarding claimants availability work search requirements has been removed.

Nebraska updates its Unemployment Insurance Notice. New Poster Required!

The Nebraska Department of Labor has updated their Unemployment Insurance Advisement of Benefit Rights with additional regulations for obtaining unemployment insurance. For example, a claimant who has drawn benefits for over six weeks will be required to expand the scope of the job search regarding acceptable hours, wages, conditions, locations, and type of work.

The Nebraska State and Federal Labor Law Poster has been updated to include this new mandatory posting.
