Recommended Changes to District of Columbia’s Minimum Wage and Accrued Sick Notices

Minimum Wage

The DC Department of Employment Services has updated the Minimum Wage notice. The office that enforces Minimum Wage compliance has changed its name to the Office of Labor Law and Enforcement.

Effective Date:  1/3/2017

Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act of 2008

The DC Department of Employment Services has updated the Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act of 2008 notice. The office that enforces Accrued Sick and Safe Leave has changed its name to the Office of Labor Law and Enforcement.

Effective Date:  1/3/2017

San Jose, CA New Notice Release: Opportunity to Work

San Jose Opportunity to Work

The City of San Jose, California has released the new Opportunity to Work Ordinance Poster. Beginning March 13, 2017, Employers with 36 or more Employees and who are subject to the San Jose Business License Tax or who maintain a facility in San Jose must offer additional work hours to existing qualified part-time Employees before hiring new Employees including subcontractors or the use of temporary staffing services.

Effective Date: 3/13/2017

 

Mandatory Change to Virginia’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Notice

The Virginia Department of Social Services has updated the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) notice. Monetary qualifications and limitations to apply for EITC are now listed in the revised notice for the 2016 tax year. Married couples filing jointly that make less than $53,505 a year, with three or more qualifying children or single individuals ages 25 or under 65 that make less than $20,430 a year with no qualifying children may apply to see if they qualify for EITC. The new revision date for the notice is 11-2016.

Mandatory Change to Federal Contractor’s Poster

Minimum Wage

The United States Wage and Hour Division has updated the Minimum Wage notice for Federal Contractors. Beginning January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017 the minimum wage for Federal Contractors will be $10.20.

Effective Date:  1/1/2017

Paid Sick Leave

The United States Wage and Hour Division has released the Paid Sick Leave notice for Federal Contractors. On September 30, 2016, the Department of Labor published a final rule to implement Executive Order 13706, Establishing Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors. The Executive Order requires parties that enter into covered contracts with the Federal Government to provide covered employees with up to 7 days of paid sick leave annually, including paid leave allowing for family care. The final rule describes the categories of contracts and employees covered by the Executive Order; the rules and restrictions regarding the accrual and use of paid sick leave; the obligations of contracting agencies, the Department of Labor, and covered Federal contractors under the Order; and the remedies and enforcement procedures to implement the Order’s requirements.

Effective Date:  1/1/2017
