Mandatory Change to New York Minimum Wage Notice

Minimum Wage

The New York Department of Labor has updated their Minimum Wage notice. Beginning December 31, 2016 the minimum wage will increase to $9.70 per hour. The notice also includes individual wage rates for large and small employers in New York City and Long Island. The revision date of the new notice is 12/16.

Mandatory Change to Alaska’s Minimum Wage Notice

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development has updated their Minimum Wage poster. Beginning January 1, 2017, the minimum wage for the state of Alaska will be $9.80 per hour. The new revision date is January 2017.

Changes to South Dakota Notices

Minimum Wage (Recommended)

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation has updated their Minimum Wage notice. Beginning January 1, 2017 the minimum wage will be $8.65/hour.

Effective Date: 1/7/2017

Notice to Employees (Recommended)

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation has updated their Notice to Employees. Grammar and format changes have occurred to the notice along with the addition of a new logo for the department.

New Updates for Vermont Notices

Earned Sick Time (Mandatory)

The Vermont Department of Labor has released a new mandatory notice detailing the requirement of employers to provide Earned Sick Time to their employees. The notice details how sick time is earned, how is can be used, when accrual begins, exemptions and employee entitlement to earned sick leave. The new notice carries a revision date of December 2016.

Effective Date: 1/7/2017

Unemployment Insurance (Recommended)

The Vermont Department of Labor has updated the Unemployment Insurance notice to reflect minor grammatical corrections. The notice carries a new revision date of 9/16.

Mandatory Change to Maine’s Minimum Wage Notice

Minimum Wage

The Maine Department of Labor have updated the Minimum Wage notice to reflect the new wage rate of $9.00/hour effective January 7th, 2017. Sections on who is exempt from Minimum Wage and Overtime and Overtime Only, Equal Pay, Board and Lodging and Unfair Contracts have been removed. In addition, as of January 7th, 2017, employers must pay a direct wage of at least $5 per hour to service employees. Finally, the posting revision date has been updated to 12/16.

Mandatory Changes to Nebraska’s Minimum Wage and Unemployment Insurance Notices

Minimum Wage

The Nebraska Department of Labor has updated their minimum wage notice. The Notice to Employees section has been updated. An employer may pay a new employee younger than 20 who is not a seasonal or migrant worker, a training wage of at least 75% of the federal minimum wage for 90 days from the date the new employee was hired, subject to the terms and conditions described in Neb. Rev. Stat. subsection 48-1203.01. The new revision date of the notice is 10/5/2016.

Unemployment Insurance

The Nebraska Department of Labor has updated their Unemployment Insurance notice. For benefit years beginning prior to 10/1/2015, individuals wanting to make an unemployment claim for benefits shall file the application online at www.dol.nebraska.gov. Applicants who wish to receive benefits beginning on or after 10/1/2015, except for those claims involving either wages paid by the military or federal government or combined with wages from states other than Nebraska, shall be filed online through www.dol.nebraska.gov unless a special accommodation is required or no reasonable access to an office is available. Conditions requiring a special accommodation shall include, but not limited to, language barriers and physical and mental handicaps. Lastly, the section regarding claimants availability work search requirements has been removed.

Mandatory Change to Colorado’s Minimum Wage Notice

Minimum Wage

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has updated their Minimum Wage Order Poster. The Order 33 poster reflects $9.30 as the minimum wage rate for the state of Colorado beginning January 1, 2017. The rate for tipped employees is now $6.28 per hour.

Mandatory Change to California’s Minimum Wage Notice

Minimum Wage (Mandatory)

The California Department of Industrial Relations has released their Minimum Wage notice. On April 4, 2016, the Governor of California signed legislation that effective January 1, 2017 the minimum wage for California employers with 26 or more employees will be $10.50 per hour while employers with 25 or fewer employees will be $10.00 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage rate for the year 2018 has been added to the notice, $11.00 for employers with 26 or more employees and $10.50 for employers with 25 or fewer employees. The rates for the Meals and Lodging section of the notice have also been updated to reflect the rate change for the years 2017 and 2018. If credit is used for meals or lodging to meet part of the employer’s minimum wage obligation, the amounts so credited may not be more than the amounts listed for meals or lodging in the notice. Lastly, a web address has been added to receive additional information on California’s Minimum Wage Law.

Effective Date for Both Notices: 1/1/2017
